This 600 grit diamond sharpening stone is a professional double-sided diamond bench stone developed by James Barry for sharpening plane irons, chisels and precision woodworking tools. The 600 grit surface is ideal for refining edges and restoring dull tools, while the 180 grit side provides rapid material removal for repairing worn or damaged cutting edges.
Manufactured using electroplated industrial diamond bonded to a precision-ground steel substrate (flat to ±0.005"), this 203 x 75mm double-sided diamond plate delivers fast, consistent cutting performance without the need for soaking or flattening. Designed for workshop use, it is perfectly sized for plane irons and chisels up to 75mm wide, providing a stable, reliable reference surface for accurate sharpening.
Why choose this diamond bench stone?
Serious woodworking demands accuracy, consistency and flatness. This 600 grit diamond bench sharpening stone is built on a precision-ground steel substrate (±0.005") to provide a stable reference surface for sharpening plane irons and chisels accurately.
Unlike traditional water stones, this diamond plate requires no soaking and no flattening, saving valuable workshop time while maintaining reliable performance. The electroplated industrial diamond surface cuts aggressively and evenly, making edge restoration faster and more controlled.
The dual grit 180/600 combination gives you both coarse reshaping and medium refinement in one professional tool—ideal for site work, workshop use and precision bench sharpening.
Designed by James Barry specifically for woodworking applications, this stone delivers professional performance with long-term durability.
Built for professional and serious woodworking use, this stone provides the durability and flatness required for repeatable, high-precision results.
What is a 600 grit diamond sharpening stone used for?
A 600 grit diamond sharpening stone is considered a medium grit and is used to restore dull cutting edges, refine tools after coarse grinding and prepare blades for final honing or polishing. It removes enough material to re-establish a keen edge while maintaining control and accuracy—making it ideal for woodworking tools where flatness and edge geometry are critical.
After refining the edge with 600 grit, progress to a 1000 grit diamond sharpening stone for final edge sharpening and finishing.
For heavily worn or chipped edges, the 180 grit side can be used first to reshape the bevel. For larger repairs, begin with a 300 grit diamond sharpening stone before progressing to 600 grit for refinement.
