Developed by James Barry Sharpening, this professional-grade sharpening kit contains everything needed to achieve razor-sharp cutting edges and a flawless mirror-polished finish on woodworking tools, carving tools, turning tools, knives, chisels and other edged instruments.

At the heart of the kit is the unique double-sided diamond credit card stone, featuring a coarse 300-grit surface for rapid material removal and edge restoration, alongside a finer 600-grit surface for refining and honing. Unlike many thinner alternatives, the stone is manufactured with a robust 1.6mm thickness, providing exceptional rigidity and stability during use. This prevents unwanted flexing, ensuring greater control, accuracy and consistency when sharpening carbide, HSS (High-Speed Steel) and other tool steels.

The compact 85mm x 50mm format makes the stone ideal for precision sharpening tasks, particularly on small fluted tools, carving gouges, turning tools and profiled cutting edges where larger sharpening stones can be difficult to manoeuvre.

Included in the kit is a premium hand-made British leather strop, crafted with both a coarse and fine side for ultimate edge refinement. Used in conjunction with the supplied finishing mirror paste, the strop removes microscopic burrs and polishes the cutting edge to an exceptionally keen finish, helping tools cut cleaner, smoother and more accurately.

To maximise performance and extend the life of the diamond stone, the kit also includes James Barry's Original Formula Lapping Fluid. Developed specifically for use with electroplated diamond abrasives and trusted within the engineering industry for over 35 years, this specialist lubricant provides the correct viscosity to maintain effective contact between the tool and diamond surface. It reduces swarf build-up, improves sharpening efficiency and helps protect the stone from corrosion.

Completing the system is the Finishing Mirror Paste, a micro-fine abrasive compound equivalent to approximately 8,000–10,000 grit. Applied to the leather strop, it rapidly produces a highly polished, mirror-like edge capable of delivering exceptionally clean and precise cuts. The paste can also be used with buffing wheels for further polishing applications.
